HOW IT ALL BEGAN

My Mom and I went to the Palace of Children and Youth in Karaganda for a ticket to the summer camp. I was 10. Walking past the glass door I saw children engaged in ballroom dancing. I stopped and told my Mom that I wanted to dance. The next day I came to the group and began to study. Having trained a month and a half, I wonthose who had been dancing since the age of 5-6 at a tournament in Karaganda.

That was when my career started.

I was 12 and was noticed by foreign judges who invited me to Germany to live and practice ballroom dancing. Unfortunately, we were not able to leave because of the delay of documents.

Having left school I was going to enter Karaganda Polytechnic University. But before that I went to Astana for a ballroom dancing tournament where I met a prominent dancer Hamit Bekezhanov and his partner Natasha Menshikova who worked at Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts. I got interested in the academy, since this institution was the only one to teach certified teachers of ballroom dancing. The only question I asked was if they taught chemistry and physics. Hearing a negative answer, I made the final decision to enter the academy.

I told my parents about my intention. After thinking for 5 seconds they allowed me to go. Two days later we went to Almaty and passed exams on subjects I’d never studied.

One of the memorable moments was my trip in 2008 to the Open Championship in Germany. It was amazing, as it was the first time I went abroad and talked to the world couples who were my idols, whom I watched on TV, the Internet. It was just "Wow!" I was shocked.

I often changed partners for various reasons. There were moments when a partner grew up and got above me which does not look aesthetically correct. Sometimes I was better than my partner and had to change it to a stronger one. The topic of my MA thesis was "Psychological relations of partners in sports ballroom dancing," where I had several objects such as how to be in a couple or how to arrange a couple. It is necessary to look not only at appearance, but on the personality as well. Partners spend the whole day together, and there should be no secrets between them.

Having done "Sports Dance Teacher" degree, I was invited by the chancellor of the Kazakh National University of Arts to work in Astana, as my major was taught only in Almaty at that moment. I came to Astana and started conducting lessons. I developed methodological complex of disciplines in two programs: Latin American, which includes the samba, cha-cha-cha, rumba, paso doble, jive, and European ones which are tango, slow waltz, Viennese waltz, slow foxtrot and fast foxtrot. I was the only one to have the right to teach ballroom dancing at the university.

Entering Zhurgenov Academy of Arts I left my work. Now I live in Almaty and, unfortunately, I rarely come to Astana.

Now I'm a little away from sports dances, competitions and championships.

Dance-sports clubs usually deal with athletes. As for me, I opened a dance school of a different format, where anyone at any age can learn to dance.

ABOUT THE TEAM

20160211-WED_2848.jpg

Once the host of the "Dancing with the Stars" show in Almaty invited me. I watched their format, which was a little different. They also taught to dance, but in a different way. As a result, I was asked if I could make such a show in Astana in two weeks.

I started looking for people and analyzed all the dance clubs in Astana. I assembled a team of 8 people who I started to work with. After the show I realized that more practice was required and some participants had to be replaced. That was how a new Skydance show was assembled. We’re planning to make a really breathtaking show.

Team members are responsible and always contribute to the realization of our common goals, the promotion of the show and the team as a whole. We are invited to various events to perform in the group of 4-8 people. I do everything to ensure that the customer is satisfied even if the preparation timing is critical.

I used to have a dream team in Almaty, which included dancers who performed both ballroom and folk dances. One day we were asked to perform a Chinese dance. The performance was accepted with a bang, because I had a great team.

Once I got a call from a showman working in the casino and was said that the Spanish gavotte of the 18th century, polonaise and Polish mazurka should be performed the next day. The next day we prepared all three dances in an hour and a half. After the performance we went backstage and the showman shook hands with me and said that we were professionals.

THE MAIN

I want more people be inspired by us. Dancing is the main for me. I want people to be happy while they’re dancing.

20160211-WED_2815.jpg

My mentor is my father, who’s been teaching me from childhood. I often consult with him. I’m grateful to my parents for all that I’ve achieved.

ABOUT PLAN

I’m planning something interesting and astonishing, something that our country has never witnessed. Now I'm doing everything possible for this project. I search for contacts and sponsors in Almaty and Astana.

Also, I’m planning to go to international festivals on choreography. I think this will strengthen the team and raise the level.

I would like to open the schools to enable my team members teach different directions and styles. That would be great to the show and perform as a team.
