NEO QAZAQ STYLE: HOW THE MODERN KAZAKH HOUSE SHOULD LOOK LIKE

About how it all began

I am an interior designer and have been working in this field for more than seven years. The last two years I have been working on the national style. I am close to everything traditional and I want to transfer our culture to our descendants, so that they can live in this atmosphere and be surrounded by their native interior.

Since my childhood I was a creative person and I loved beautiful houses.

I like the Italian style in design. I respect Italians because they appreciate their history. They say that every drop that fell on a marble and left a trail is history. The majority wants everything to be efficient and as long as possible to survive in its original form, but Italians are not like that. It is natural for them that a tree withers over time and cracks appear on it as for them every scratch is history. I like their approach.

My team and I fulfilled 40 projects in different styles, primarily, in a classical one. Now I want to transfer this experience to a new style — to create something of my own.

Our house is a small homeland. Our children learn the world and make their first steps at home. If they see our patterns and ornaments, they will absorb it into their consciousness beginning from a young age. Therefore, Kazakhstani will carry our culture into the world from childhood.

Many people want to decorate in Kazakh style not an apartment but one room. For others, the Kazakh style is a yurt, so we make a wooden shanyrak, put a low table and korpeshki (kazakh pillows). Someone hangs kamcha on a wall or animal’s skin, but I want to go beyond one room concept. I want our national distinctive features to be demonstrated throughout the whole house and be modern.

Neo Qazaq Style

Everyone is drawn to the West: someone chooses Scandinavian or Italian style, American neo-classic or loft. There are certain culture, nationality and nation behind every interior. The modern interior style, which would reflect our culture, unfortunately, has not been formed yet. And in order to give a new round of development in this direction, I launched the Neo Qazaq Style, which will be close to every contemporary Kazakhstani. I think that we need to learn from Western colleagues a technology, the quality of production, but also try to reflect our national features.

Neo Qazaq Style is a reflection of modern Kazakhstani culture in interior and exterior design.

We already made one project under the Neo Qazaq Style — we designed a villa. Each element and detail were worked out by us and carried the Kazakh history. There was an outdoor panel depicting swallows, tulips, koshkar muiz but in a modern interpretation. We take primordially Kazakh ornaments, modify them but at the same time we leave them recognizable. We are inspired by our nature and we bring all this to our houses. For example, we have a chandelier that reminds a Martagon Lily, a field tulip.

Even if we make shanyrak, we make it from a three-dimensional stained-glass windows, using a special handmade technique.

We have three types of doors in Neo Qazaq Style: “Bibiaisha” — I named it after my mother so that we appreciate our roots and are grateful to our parents, “Laura” in honor of my sister, and “Fatima” in honor of my mother-in-law. These are the three main women in my life.
