Mothers with many children in Germany: «We were the first family with children»

Elena Grif, 40 years old, hometown — Shemonaikha, a laboratory worker

Our family members are ethnic Germans. When I was 17, my parents and I moved to Germany.

Girls in Germany are different. I met conservative girls at work, among whom extravagance was not encouraged. It was expressed in clothes, looks. At the same time, they are quite feminist. They believe it is unnecessary to get married early, necessary to enjoy life up to 30 years. Career is in the first place, and in Germany, it takes time to build a career.

In Germany families mostly have one or two children and have them pretty late. The Germans pay attention to the education of children. They have all the rules, but the punishment is not severe. I have never seen raise hand or voice on a child. Parents here are not ambitious and want the child being comfortable. If a child cannot be excellent at studying, then necessary to develop what is inherent inside.

In Germany, the society wins favour to have a child. Almost all medicine for children is free. Children included in parents' insurance without additional payment. Free education: kindergartens, schools, universities. But a large family in Germany has no privileges. Privileges here only on material status. A poor family have state aid regardless of the number of children.

I have always wanted a big family, and now we have five children. The eldest son is 21 years old, daughters 16 and 10 years old, younger 4 and 1.5 years old. On weekends we go with the family to travel around the country.

The reaction to the number of children in our family is always a surprise. People ask about finances. Because people in Germany accustomed to good living and leave themselves the opportunity to travel. Many are surprised we want to spend so much time and effort on raising children. Some people ask if we have enough space. In Germany, every child has a separate room, even twins. We have three large children rooms in the house.

I have been living in Germany for eight years, got married and moved to my husband. Now we have four children.

Women in Germany are free, independent, self-sufficient. Love life and take everything from it. German women start a family only when they really want it. They don't chase guys' attention. If a woman in Germany becomes a mother, she is ready. She loves her kid, doesn't yell and doesn't hit for sure.

We live in a small village. And we were the first family to have children. At that time all my husband's friends were just getting married.

I had a feeling that the Germans did not want to have a family and children. If they do, it's too late. Germans value freedom. Now my husband's friends are about 35 years old, and women are just starting getting married.

In Germany, each child has a payment from the state, which depends on the family income. The more children in the family, the less money the state allocates.

The family is the most important thing in my life. Honesty and trust are important to me in family relationships. My husband is a wall that protects and cares. And I'm glad to have such a person. That is what I want to raise in my children.

We moved to Germany 22 years ago. We moved as ethnic Germans with parents. Now I am on maternity leave. Our family has three children.

In Germany, it is not difficult to become a large family. My husband and I are from large families, so this is not a problem for us.

In Germany, every family give birth to a child only for themselves. Therefore, the state does not help them and there are no benefits for large families.

Girls in Germany initially build a career and only then family. This influenced by the priorities of the mother and the social situation of the family.
